I know it's been several weeks since I last did a pregnancy update, but I have seriously had no motivation to get ready enough to take a picture and when I do get ready it seems like I have no time to stop and take one! So unfortunately no bump picture this week but you can check out this one I posted on instagram!
So much has happened in the last few weeks! It feels like I can't even keep up with how fast time is flying by lately! A few weeks ago I was running low on diapers and decided it was high time I potty trained Quinn! If you follow me on facebook, you know I have started potty training several times in the last year or so but it never stuck. Not necessarily because he wasn't ready because he was practically begging to go potty in the toilet, but because I would spend the first day all gung ho and then wake up the second day totally over it. For some reason it just seemed so much less stressful to me to keep putting him in diapers instead of taking who knows how long to train him! Well I finally figured out that the only way it was going to happen was if I had no other choice, so when I ran out of diapers, I purposefully left them off my grocery list and budget! And it worked like a charm!
I decided to be super relaxed about it and not push him too much. If he had an accident then I would clean it up and move on. I would remind him to go to the bathroom every half hour or so, and he spent the entire first day running to the bathroom every 5 minutes saying he was about to go potty and then nothing would happen! He seriously held it the entire day without having any accidents or any successes! Even though I tried to not push him too much, I was so frustrated and over it by the end of the first day! Luckily, I didn't have any diapers to put him back into the next day though, so I stuck with it. First thing in the morning the second day, he went potty! And kept going! He had one small accident but other than that he went in the toilet the whole day! By day three he wasn't having any accidents, and I was able to tell when he needed to go so I could run him in there. Then on the fourth day, I didn't have to do anything at all! I didn't remind him or ask him if he needed to go potty at all that day. He went all on his own and never had a single accident!
It has now been almost 3 weeks with no accidents and I don't even have to think about him going to the bathroom because he never says a word. He just walks into the bathroom whenever he needs to go, all by himself! It has been so nice not buying diapers (we still use pull ups at night) and not worrying about changing him all the time!
Going potty when were out and about was a little more challenging but not too bad. Quinn had one accident the first time we took him out (day 2 of potty training) when he didn't warn us soon enough, but that was the only one! Even though he wasn't having accidents while we were out, he was still struggling with going to the bathroom away from home. He is TERRIFIED of public toilets! I took him in the bathroom with me at the doctors office a few months ago where they have one of those loud industrial toilets and he totally freaked! Now if you tried to take him in there he would scream and kick and claw to get out because he's so scared! It took a few tries, but I finally figured out that if I have him cover his ears while we are in there he can calm down long enough to go to the bathroom. Thank goodness! I can now confidently say that my child is potty trained!!! Woo hoo!
We've also had a lot of craziness with Jared's job lately, but I'll talk more on that another day when everything has settled down a little more. Jared and I have had horrendous allergies the past 2 weeks so we have literally not gone out at all except one quick trip to the park last week. I've been keeping busy with getting a few things ready for the baby the last few weeks and lots of photo sessions!
